What are the major elements of a film marketing campaign?

[Bride wars]
Connotations; The title suggests humor with words in no relation to each other (bride, wars). Typography;Use of feminine colour pink, ‘Bride’ is written quite elegantly and then ‘WARS’ in in large bold capitals showing that it could be the opposite of a typical wedding story. (After watching trailer)Connotation;it could turn out to be destructive with two close friends having a wedding on the same day. Denotation;‘Meet Liv and Emma – best friends since childhood. Blonde Liv is sassy and stylish with a great career as a successful Lawyer – she’s a woman who has the man, the wardrobe and the job and settles for nothing but the best. Brunette Emma on the other hand is caring and carefree with a rewarding career as as a school teacher – a woman who just wants the best in life. Everything goes well until they find out their weddings are both on the same day – what are best friends to do?’

[AdULTHOOD]

Connotations; The second part from the movie KiDULTHOOD which could suggest a change over time due to the name being changed to ‘adult’. Typography; A lower cased ‘d’ is used in the title contradicting the name of the film which may not be aimed at adults, especially with the fact that the character on the cover is a young man. (After watching trailer) Connotation;Could suggest that this could be a very challenging but fearless film. Denotation; After 6 years in prison for killing Trife, Sam Peel is released to face the guilt and pain caused by his crime. Before he can rebuild his life there’s something he has to face first…those seeking revenge. In a desperate race through his past, the next 24 hours could just be the longest of his life. As well as his last. Sam is about to go from kidulthood to adulthood..if he survives.

[This Christmas]
Connotations;Suggests that ‘This Christmas’ will be a different kind of Christmas for the family. ‘You can’t exchange family’ could symbolize the people that we are mostly with around Christmas time. Typography;Uses the familiar Christmas colours or red and white with a nice font. (After watching trailer)Connotation;Could suggest that every family have problems and secrets but the loving spirit of Christmas pulls them together. Denotation; THIS CHRISTMAS there’s no place like family. For the first time in years, all the Whitfield kids have come to spend the holiday with their mum and boyfriend Joe. And each has brought plenty of baggage along with them. As the lights are hung and the tree in trimmed, secrets are revealed and ties are tested . But as their lives converge again, they join together to rediscover and celebrate the wonderful gift of family.

Which is more important in a trailer; words or images?

I think images are more important in a trailer because by being given an actual visual of the movie it gives the viewer a deeper understanding of the genre, mood and a look of the characters. However, sometimes images can be deceiving. For example, a picture of a happy family on the cover of a movie could include content of a sad and sorrowful movie which would probably be described in the sub-title. Words can sometimes be very helpful for the viewer to understand the genre of the film e.g. ‘This Christmas’ -> ‘You can’t exchange family’ -> an obvious family movie. But most people into movies such as myself would prefer to see images to look out for whilst watching trailers in the movie theatre
